Presented is an antique 10 karat yellow gold and enamel pendant made in America circa 1850s-1880s. This wonderful Victorian piece is most likely a memorial or mourning pendant, perhaps intended to be reversible when the mourning period is through. The cross pendant is double sided, with finely engraved foliate and floral decoration against black enamel on one side and more bright-cut scrollwork engraving for the reverse, with no enamel. The side without enamel has a monogram of B W, while the enameled side has a blank banner form cartouche. This pendant comes with a dainty round link chain with a springring clasp, which is how it came to us, but the chain is not gold. Of course you can put the pendant on a different chain very easily. The bail/loop on the cross is a smaller one, about 2.2 millimeters interior diameter.

The cross is nitric acid tested and guaranteed to be 10 karat gold. The chain does not test as gold.

This piece is in great condition, especially for its age. The enamel is in great shape, and the decoration on both sides is quite crisp.

The chain measures 21 inches long.
The pendant measures 7/8 of an inch by 1 1/2 inches.

Weight: 3.5 grams for the cross alone, 5.2 grams total weight with the chain.
