Presented is a charming Victorian 18 karat gold photo locket pendant. This piece dates to around the 1860s-1870s and is of American make. The locket is done in a classical oval form, with an applied design on the front, set with tiny natural seed pearls. The locket is done in attractively contrasting bright finish rose gold and matte finish yellow gold. The inside of the locket has an old tintype photograph of a young woman. The other half of the locket has nothing behind the glass of its bezel.
The locket is in great overall condition. The hinge of the locket is in great shape, and it snaps shut nicely. The glass on both bezels is in great shape.
The locket is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 18 karat gold.
The locket measures about 1 1/2 inches long, including the loop/bail at the top, and about 3/4 of an inch wide.
The locket weighs 6.1 grams.
