c1850s-1880s Fine 14k Gold Chinese Carving Floral Stickpin
Presented is a fabulous Chinese carved stickpin done in 14 karat gold. This
piece dates to around the 1850s-1880s. The carving is very nicely done in high
relief, showing chrysanthemums or some other intricately petaled flowers. The
gold setting is well made, with a fine ropetwist design around the bezel. The
gold setting is 14 karat gold, while the shaft of the pin is 10 karat gold.
The pin is in great overall condition. The carving is in good shape, and if
there are any chips or losses they blend into the design so well that I can't
see them. There are a couple of age lines to the material. The carving wiggles a
bit in its setting but is not in any danger of falling out. The gold has no
breaks and no repairs.
The pin is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid
and guarantee that the head of the pin is 14 karat gold while the shaft portion
is 10 karat gold.
The pin is about 2 7/8 inches long.
The total weight for the pin including the stopper is 2.8 grams. The weight
of just the pin without the stopper is 2.5 grams.
