Presented is a fantastic set of 12 American coin silver teaspoons. These spoons are by John H. Tyler Co and date to around the 1840s-1850s. The spoons are made in the lovely Dew Drop pattern, with classical foliate and scroll motifs on the front and back of the handle. George Shiebler also produced silver in the Dew Drop pattern, starting in 1860, so if you have this pattern these spoons will match perfectly. The spoons are well made, with a nice feeling of weight and balance in the hand.
This set is in great condition. The details of the pattern are nice and crisp. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The spoons are stamped with the maker's mark for John H. Tyler & Co. John H. Tyler worked in Boston in his early life, but most of his work, including these spoons, was done in Richmond, Virginia after 1840.
Each spoon is about 5 3/4 inches long.
The total weight for the set is 247 grams or 8.7 regular ounces. -jm
