Presented is a wonderful old Chinese export porcelain covered entree or vegetable serving dish, dating to circa 1850-1890. The dish is in a classic Canton Blue Willow type pattern, featuring a detailed landscape scene in the center: a boat on a river with various buildings and trees in the background, a bridge in the foreground, and a prominent willow tree. The rim has a 'rain and cloud' border. The lid is likewise decorated with the river scene, surrounding a pinecone finial handle. The underside is unglazed.
This piece is in excellent overall condition, particularly considering age and material. One little flake to the glaze on the finial is the only flaw I can find. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
The underside is marked China.
This dish measures about 8 3/4 x 7 1/4 inches, and stands about 1 5/5 inches at the rim, or 3 1/4 inches to the top of the finial of the lid. -jm
