Presented is a great pair of hand painted porcelain bowls. These bowls are sometimes called shrimp dishes. They have a great scalloped design with a handle at the top. The centers are beautifully hand painted with charming countryside scenes with gilded accents. The dishes were made around the 1830s or 1840s. They were most likely made in France, or possibly England.
The dishes are not marked.
One dish is in excellent condition with only minor wear to the original gilding. It has no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The other dish has some problems. There is a chip on the rim on the right side of the dish and the left side of the handle has broken off. It also has minor wear to the gilding. It has no other chips and no cracks. Both dishes are still perfectly useable.
The dishes are 8 inches wide and 9 inches long across the handles.
Weight: 2 lbs (909 grams)
