c1830s-1880s American Victorian 10k Gold Orange Agate Carnelian Watch Key Fob
Presented is a wonderful American Victorian 10 karat gold and orange stone
watch key fob. This piece dates to around the 1830s-1880s. The fob is well made,
such that the loop at the top swivels allowing the fob to be turned to wind a
watch while it is still attached to a chain. The fob is set with a large oval of
an orange stone, likely agate or carnelian, beautifully translucent with faint
mottling. It's hard to say exactly the size of the key, it looks like about a
size 2 or 4, in terms of what size watch it will wind. A jeweler could easily
replace the key end with a key size of your choosing.
This piece is in great overall condition. The stone has no chips or cracks.
There are no breaks and no repairs.
The fob is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid
and guarantee it to be 10 karat gold.
The fob is about 2 inches long.
This piece weighs 12.0 grams.
