c1830s-1860s Fab Victorian 18k Gold Enamel Seed Pearl Pin / Brooch Locket
Presented is a fabulous Victorian 18 karat gold, enamel and pearl pin or brooch. This piece dates to around the 1830s-1860s and is likely American or Italian. The pin is done in an oval form, with ornate applied wirework and beadwork designs around the edge. In the center of the pin is an eight-pointed star design in blue enamel, set with a single natural seed pearl. The back of the pin has a removable glass bezel, currently containing a piece of blue fabric, but this could be replaced with a photo, lock of hair, folded note or other tiny memento, as there is a surprisingly deep space behind the bezel. The pin has an old C style clasp as well as a loop where a bail could be attached so it could be worn on a cord or chain, or where a pendant/charm could be added.
This piece is in great condition. The enamel is in great shape. The glass has no chips and no cracks. The clasp functions well and closes securely. There are a couple of minor dings here and there, nothing that stands out or is visible from the front. There are no splits, no breaks, and no repairs to the gold.
The pin is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 18 karat gold.
The pin measures about 1 5/8 by 1 1/4 inches.
This piece weighs 12.3 grams.
