Presented is a fabulous American Victorian 14 karat gold, pearl and gemstone brooch. This piece dates to around 1820-1860. The brooch is set with a fiery orange stone under glass, probably carnelian or agate, but we have not removed the glass to check what it is. A jeweler could pull the glass and the buyer could set something else underneath, like a photo or hair if you're feeling old-fashioned. The glass is surrounded by a ring of natural pearls. The brooch has an old c style clasp.
The pin is in great condition. The pearls and the glass are in great shape. There are no breaks and no repairs.
This piece is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14 karat gold.
The pin is about 1 3/8 by 1 1/8 inches.
The pin weighs 10.6 grams.
