Presented is a very impressive pair of German silver three light convertible candelabra. These candelabra date to circa 1819 and were made by Johann Bernhard Breymann. The candelabra are very stately and elegant, with a petal type design around the tops of the shafts, around the ends of the arms, and beneath the socles. The bases are finely engraved with an overlapping scale design. The candelabra are quite interesting in their construction, very well crafted pieces that disassemble as the photos show, so the socles can easily be cleaned of any wax drips etc. The pair can be used as tall three light candelabra or as single candlesticks, as shown in the second photo.
Each candelabra is stamped on the side of the base with the 12 loth mark guaranteeing at least 750 purity silver, inside the city mark for Dresden, as well as a maker's mark of Breyman for Johann Bernhard Breymann and an unidentified mark of W.
This pair of candelabra is in great overall condition. One candelabra has a minor dent to the central shaft, while the other has a minor dent on the lower portion of the central shaft as well as on the upper portion. Both candelabra have a thin copper lining inside the two socles in the arms, but the center socles do not have this. There are no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
As a three light candelabra, each candelabra stands about 18 inches tall and measures about 16 inches across the arms. As a single candlestick, each candlestick measures about 10 1/2 inches tall.
The total weight for the pair is 2388 grams or 84.2 regular ounces. -jm
