Presented is a superb set of 4 American coin silver teaspoons, with one large serving spoon. These spoons date to circa 1804-1829. The spoons are done in a lovely traditional King or Kings pattern, with classical shell and scroll motifs. These are sturdy, well made coin silver utensils, with a nice feeling of weight in the hand. Each spoon is monogrammed with H on the end of the handle.

This set is in great condition. One of the teaspoons has a couple of minor dings to its bowl, which are not of any significance in our opinion. There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

Each spoon is stamped with the mark for New York City retailer Taylor & Hinsdale. There are no other marks, but we received a set of forks with these spoons that were marked with a maker's mark identified as possibly belonging to a maker named Forbes, circa 1804-1829, also of New York City, according to John R. McGrew's Manufacturers' Marks on American Coin Silver. These forks were in the same pattern, made in the same style, and have the same monogram, so we believe the spoons are by the same maker.

Each teaspoon is about 5 5/8 inches long. The large serving spoon is about 8 1/2 inches long.

The total weight for the set is 192 grams or 6.8 regular ounces. -jm
