Presented is a charming American silver snuffbox, from around the 1750s-1820s. The box is done in a cut-corner rectangular or octagonal form, beautifully hand engraved with floral designs. The lid of the box has a faint scratched in monogram of MW, one letter on either side of the floral design. The interior of the box has a gold wash.
The box is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be at least 900 purity silver.
This piece is in great overall condition. The engraved designs are nice and crisp. The hinge of the lid is in great shape, and the lid snaps shut nicely. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no cracks, no monograms, and no repairs.
The box measures about 1 1/2 by 1 by 7/8 of an inch, LxWxH.
The box weighs 23.4 grams.
