Presented is a fantastic set of 10 antique French Limoges plates, made and decorated by Tressemanes & Vogt and retailed by Ovington Bros, a high end New York retailer. The plates are white with very ornate gilt borders, featuring raised, textured floral decoration as well as matte finish gold gilt rims, all very intricate and well done. At the top of each plate is a colorful hand decorated bird, of varying species and color combinations but all quite realistic and nicely done. These plates would make a truly unforgettable addition to any table setting, and are a nice versatile size of about nine inches in diameter, which can be a small dinner size, luncheon, or large salad plate, however you like.
This set is in great overall condition. Five of the plates have tiny chips or flakes to the gilt rim, which have been touched up/re-gilt with gold so they are very hard to notice. There is some wear to the gilding of the inner rim decoration, where the foot of the plate above would touch when the plates are stored in a stack. Some minor wear/loss to the gilding of the outer rim edge here and there. The painted decoration of the birds is in fantastic shape. There are no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs.
Each plate is signed on the underside with the maker's mark for Tressemanes & Vogt, Limoges France, as well as a retail mark for Ovington Bros, of New York.
