Presented is a wonderful antique American coin silver napkin ring, dating to around the 1850s-1860s. The napkin ring is beautifully hand cased with a design of roses and scrollwork, against a stippled texture background. The rims have a finely engraved Greek key or meander design, with a beaded border. One side has a scroll-enclosed cartouche, with a monogram of RHB in detailed Gothic lettering, while another cartouche on the reverse simply has the number five; presumably this napkin ring was part of a set. The silver of the cartouches is quite thick, and one or both of these engravings could be removed and replaced without weakening the silver too much. The quality of the hand chasing and decoration is exceptional, very detailed and well executed. Really a very handsome piece.

This piece is in excellent condition. The details of the chased decoration are very crisp. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

There are no stamps or hallmarks that we can find, but we have tested this piece with nitric acid and guarantee it to be coin (900) purity silver.

This napkin ring measures about 1 3/4 inches in diameter and is about 1 wide.

This piece weighs 30 grams or 1.05 regular ounces. -jm
