Beautiful Antique 18K Yellow Gold Catholic Madonna Virgin Mary Jesus Pendant

Presented is a charming 18 karat gold Catholic medallion. This is a French piece, dating to 1936 or earlier. The pendant depicts the Virgin Mary with the infant Jesus, both with halos and rays in the background. The figures are nicely detailed and the gold has an attractive matte finish. The back of the pendant has a presentation inscription of FG in flowing script, above the date '5 Juillet 1936.'

The pendant is in great overall condition. At one point in time there was probably colored enamel in the open portions of the rays, as evidenced by a couple of tiny remnants of enamel. However, the pendant looks very appealing in it current enamel-less state. The gold has no breaks and no repairs.

The pendant is stamped on the loop at the top with the French eagle's head hallmark for 18 karat gold.

The pendant measures about 1 1/4 inches including the loop/bail at the top.

The pendant weighs 5.9 grams.
