Presented is a gorgeous table lamp converted from a late 1800s Royal Bonn vase. The body of the lamp is a very ornate vase with a rich red ground and peach and green accents, with intricate gilt decoration in the form of floral and foliate scrollwork, in raised and matte finish gilding. There are two finely hand-painted vignettes, one on either side, one a classical courting scene and the other an idyllic riverfront scene. At the base are smaller vignettes in the same style, just as skillfully done regardless of their smaller size. The base of the lamp, to which the vase is bolted, is done in an appealing octagonal form and matches the style of the vase quite well, with its gilding and foliate scrollwork decoration.
This piece is in excellent condition. The vase itself is in great shape, with no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The gilding and paint have only the most minor surface wear. Some crazing to the glaze, but nothing extreme. As you can see from the photos, the lamp component is in working condition.
The vase is signed on the underside with the Royal Bonn mark in red, as well as various other incised marks. This is obscured by the base, so the lamp has to be disassembled for this to be visible.
The lamp stands about 31 1/2 inches tall at the tallest point, and measures about 7 inches in diameter at the widest. The base measures about 6 inches, square. -jm
