Presented is a wonderful quality, heavy weight sterling silver covered entrée dish or covered vegetable dish made by Arthur Stone Associates, the highly regarded American Arts & Crafts maker. Although this dish was made after Arthur Stone retired and sold his shop, many of the same master silversmiths who worked for Stone remained with the company and continued producing high quality silver, as is the case with this particular piece of silver. This piece was made by Herbert Taylor, a master craftsman who worked for Arthur Stone for many years. The dish is masterfully wrought with a great hand hammered finish throughout. The dish has never been monogrammed or engraved.
This piece is completely handmade and hand hammering is evident throughout. The finial is made from a white natural material and is removable as can be seen in the photos. The handle locks tightly into place.
This piece is marked on the underside with a maker’s mark for Arthur Stone Associates, Sterling, and the letter T for the craftsman, Herbert Taylor.
The dish is in great condition overall. There are a few small dents, dings, and surface scratches virtually entirely to the bottom of the dish, but these will not be very noticeable, especially when the dish is in use. There are no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.
The dish measures 8 1/4 inches square and 4 inches tall.
The weight is 896.6 grams or 31.4 ounces. Quite heavy.
