Presented is an antique, sterling silver soup or punch ladle made by the Whiting Manufacturing Company during the late 19th century. This piece is in the Louis XV pattern, which was patented in 1891 and this ladle is old, original production. The handle and the top of the deep bowl are decorated with scroll designs.
The back of the handle is marked for Whiting, sterling silver purity, patent 1891 and it has a retailer's mark for Bailey, Banks & Biddle.
This piece is in great overall condition, especially for its age. The designs are crisp and there is minimal surface wear. The front of the handle has a monogram removal.
Length: 12 1/2 inches.
Weight: 200 grams, quite a bit heavier than most this size. Usually this size weights about 127 grams.
