Presented is a wonderful quality silver plated two-handled urn, probably a spooner, made by Meriden Britannia Company. The urn is raised up on a pedestal base with an elegant swirling lobed design. There is a beautiful band of raised decoration around the middle depicting the heads of classical figures interspersed with fancy flowers, shells and scrolls. The top of the body is engraved with flowers and leaves.
The urn is marked on the underside with Meriden B. Quadruple Plate. Both Roger Smith & Co. and Rogers Brothers also made this exact pattern, although this piece is stamped by Meridian Britannia & Co.. These companies were interrelated.
The urn is in very good condition. The silver plating is in good shape overall, but there is certainly some wear. The decoration is sharp and crisp. There are some surface scratches on the interior, but there are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.
The urn is 5 3/8 inches wide across the handles and 5 3/4 inches tall.
