Presented is an antique, Scottish sterling silver cheese serving knife or jelly slice made by Robert Keay of Edinburgh during the first quarter of the 1800s. This wonderful serving piece is done in a classic Georgian style, with a tapered, round handle with a flat end. The blade is hand engraved with a border of bright cut decoration and a particularly detailed and interesting crest in the center, consisting of a starburst beneath a flaming heart. The crest has an engraving of the Latin motto: Super Sidera Votum, which translates to: My desires extend beyond the stars or My wishes are above the stars.

The knife is marked with the duty mark of King George III and thistle mark for sterling silver that were used together in Edinburgh between 1800 and 1819. There is also a maker's mark for Robert Keay.

This piece is in excellent overall condition for its age. There are some minor dings to the handle, with one notable compression to the edge of the flat end, but there are no other damages and no repairs. The engravings are very crisp.

Length: 7 3/4 inches.

Weight: 57 grams.
