Antique Nouveau 1879 Lovely David Andersen Norwegian Silver Fish Slice Server
Presented is a fabulous Norwegian silver fish slice or fish server. This piece dates to 1879 and was made by David Andersen. The server has an elegant twist form stem and a spade shaped blade. The terminal of the handle features a design of crossed stalks of wheat, with a flower and what looks like a maple seed, all against a textured background. The blade of the server is fabulously hand engraved with an intricate design, with decorative cut-out work around the center. The back of the blade has a rat tail design. The back of the handle is smooth, and could easily be monogrammed or presented.
This piece is in great condition. The details of the pattern on the handle are quite crisp. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The server is stamped on the back above the bowl with the maker's mark for David Andersen, as well as the date 1879 and the 13 1/4 lodig mark, for either 828 or 883 purity silver, depending on if the scale is out of 15 or out of 16.
The server is about 12 inches long.
The server weighs 106 grams or 3.7 regular ounces.
