Antique Hanau Germany Silver Saint George Dragon Angels Cigarette Case
Regular price
$284.00
Presented is an antique Hanau German silver cigarette case by Neresheimer, dating to around the 1890s. This is a heavy, solid silver case and though it was originally intended for hand rolled cigarettes (as you'd find at the time) it can of course be used for a variety of things today. Each side of the case is hand chased with high relief scenes over a stippled background. One side depicts an angel holding out a flower to a woman, both figures with halos, under a banner that reads OF UAF REA SMO. The other side depicts St. George on horseback killing a dragon or serpent with a spear.
The top of the case is engraved with the name Hooper Dooper. The lip of the case bears the German crown and crescent moon mark, 800 for the silver purity and Hanau pseudo marks for Neresheimer.
This piece is in great overall condition for its age. The designs are crisp. There is some very minor denting.
Dimensions: 3 3/8 by 2 5/8 inches.
Weight: 113 grams.
