Presented is an antique, American coin silver sugar shell or small serving spoon made by Gorham during the mid 19th century. This piece is in the Grecian pattern, which was patented in 1861. The back of the spoon is marked 'patent applied for', indicating this piece was made before the 1861 patent date. The top of the handle is very decorative and the bowl has a light gold wash.
The back is marked 'patent applied for' and coin for 900 silver purity.
This piece is in great condition for its age. There is minor surface wear, but no damages and no repairs.
