Antique German Silver Fork and Knife w/ Hand-Painted Porcelain Handles
Regular price
$255.00
Presented is a stunning German silver fork and knife pair with porcelain handles, likely produced between 1830-1870s. This pair displays fabulous gold wash on the silver and hand-painted handles featuring gilded scrolls and scenes of soldiers, fisherman, and couples walking. The silver junctions are quite fancy with scrolls and shell details. The back of the fork has the green man or north wind face in high relief. The front of the fork and knife has been monogrammed in the silver with a crown and the initials MH and EDJ in a flowing script. It looks like the second monogram may have been added later.
The reverse of each piece has been marked with the Dresden city mark which includes a 12 for .750 purity silver. The pair is also marked with the letter R and Schal.
This pair is in great overall condition, especially considering age. The decorations are well-defined. There is a very small split on the junction of the fork and the porcelain's end is missing a cap, but the porcelain does not appear to be at risk of coming off. There are no other breaks and no repairs.
Length of fork: 7 1/4 inches
Length of knife: 7 3/4 inches -kc
