Presented is an antique, sterling silver gravy or sauce ladle made by William Eley and William Fearn of London in 1800. This turn of the 19th century, Georgian piece is finely hand engraved with a crest featuring a bird or prey or griffin's head over a tower or turret above a banner inscribed with the Latin phrase: In Hoc Signo Vinces, which translates to In this sign, thou shalt conquer. This is a common Masonic phrase or motto. We have been told that some of the Moss and Mosse families used this crest and motto.

The back is marked with the leopard's head for London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a duty mark of the king's head, a date letter F for the year 1800 and a maker's mark for William Eley and William Fearn.

This piece is in excellent overall condition for its age with only minimal surface wear and no damages or repairs.

Length: 6 7/8 inches.

Weight: 57 grams or 2 regular ounces.
