Presented is a fabulous quality English cut crystal and gold perfume bottle. The bottle itself is quite large and is in excellent condition. There are no cracks, no breaks, and no chips. There are some surface scratches. The cutting is well done. This piece is completely handmade.
The original ground glass stopper is present. The majority of the time, these stoppers have been lost. I am always amazed to find pieces this old with all the original parts.
The two-tone gold cap is 10k and 14k purity. The very top yellow part of the cap is 14k gold, and the rose colored, threaded part is 10k. I have tested this piece with nitric acid and I guarantee it to be 10k and 14k gold. Undoubtedly the 14k yellow gold part is a repair, which was well done.
There are some small dents to the gold, see photos. The gold cap is threaded, and there are grooves in the glass. The cap screws into the glass.
This flask is 5 1/4 inches long, and 1 1/2 inches wide, and 1/2 inch thick, but the bottle tapers, it is wedge shaped. At the end, the bottle is 1/4 inch thick. This is a fabulous, old perfume bottle. This piece was certainly made between 1780 and 1815.
