Antique Dutch Silver Repousse Mother Joy Sailing Ship Genre Scene Spoon

Presented is a wonderful old Dutch silver spoon with a classic repoussé genre scene on the bowl. The hand chased bowl depicts a mother watching over her baby as it sleeps in a cradle. She is seated in front of a fireplace with a cat curled up in front of it. The bowl has the inscription “Moedervreugde” which is Dutch for ‘Mother Joy’. The spoon has a double snake for the handle with a cherub’s head at the bottom. The tip of the handle is done in the form of an elaborate sailing ship with “Nederland” below. The back of the handle is engraved, “Marken”.
The spoon is hallmarked on the bowl with the lion mark for Dutch 833 purity silver and a maker’s mark of VK for Gerritsen en van Kempen nv Zeist. The handle is marked with the date letter “T’ for 1929 and the Minerva’s head duty mark including the letter B for the city of Utrecht.
The condition is excellent. There are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.
The spoon is 8 inches long.
The weight is 57.2 grams or 2 ounces.
