Antique c1900 European Silver Gold Wash Gilt Medallion Plate Charger 8 1/2"
Regular price
$1,044.00
Presented is a fabulous quality silver medallion plate with gold washed rim. The plate was made in the late 1800s to early 1900s, in Continental Europe, probably in Germany. The piece is 850 silver purity. The plate is decorated on the rim with stunning, hand-chased shells, scrolls, swags, and angels around central cartouches. Inside the cartouches are medallion heads done in a traditional ancient Greek or Roman style. We are not sure who the heads represent. The background to the rim decoration is stippled to lend a contrasting matte finish.
The plate is marked on the underside with a fleur de lis and a mark that could be a lion's head or a swan. We guarantee the piece to be 850 purity silver.
The plate is in excellent condition. The gold wash has only been applied to the decorations on the rim, and not the raised, smooth edges, to give it an attractive two-toned finish, and the gold wash is in excellent condition. There are no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The plate measures about 8 1/2 inches in diameter and 7/8 inches high.
The plate weighs 300.0 grams or 10.58 ounces.
