Presented is a wonderful American sterling silver basket with cobalt glass liner. This piece dates to around the turn of the century. The basket stands on four feet, with shell designs where they meet the body. The sides of the basket are attractively pierced to show the rich blue of the glass liner. The basket has a gadrooned edge, which matches the edge on the swing handle.
The basket is sterling silver, tested and guaranteed. We believe this piece is by Towle, based on the design.
This piece is in good overall condition. As the photo points out, there is a slight split above one of the feet. There are old solder repairs to both sides of the swing handle. The cobalt liner has had two chips ground down.
The basket measures 4 1/2 by 5 3/4 inches and is 3 1/4 inches tall. The whole piece measures 5 1/4 inches tall when the handle is raised upright.
The silver basket weighs 96.7 grams or 3.4 regular ounces, not including the glass liner.
