Presented is a very fine quality, German silver dish of 800 silver purity made during the late 19th century. This piece is made in the Louis XV or Louis XVI style. There are 8 profiles of various kings around the edge. All of these profiles, including the ribbon above each cartouche and the garlands which connect each cartouche, are done in high relief. Although the cartouches look similar they are, in fact, of different people. Each one probably represents a different king of France.
This plate or bowl was made in Germany in the late 1800s. It is hallmarked along the edge with the crescent moon and crown and the No. 800, which are all German hallmarks. The crossed hammer mark is most likely the maker's stamp. The small rectangular punch on the upper left is a French import mark. This piece is very well-made. All of the chasing and relief work appears to be hand done. This piece is quite heavy for its size.
