Presented is a lovely American coin silver sauce or gravy ladle. This piece is by Hotchkiss & Schreuder of Syracuse, New York, and dates to circa 1865. The ladle is done in a style similar to Gorham's 1864 Medallion pattern. The end of the handle has an oval medallion showing a classical Greco-Roman woman's head in profile, with a garland of leaves in her hair. The bowl of the ladle is done in an elegant shell form. The back of the handle has an MEP monogram.

The ladle is stamped on the stem with the maker's mark for Hotchkiss & Schreuder, a Syracuse New York maker, and the retail mark of John F. Fox.

This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no dents, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.

This piece is about 6 1/2 inches long.

This piece weighs 29.2 grams.
