Presented is a beautiful 10 karat gold pietra dura pin or brooch. This piece dates to around the 1850s-1870s. The pietra dura stonework is of Italian make, while the gold frame was likely done in America. The face of the brooch features a lovely design of white flowers and buds, with green leaves and a teal, white and red bird, all done in colorful stone inlay against a black stone background. The degree of realism and detail achieved using tiny pieces of stone is simply amazing. The brooch has an old C style clasp.

This piece is in great condition. There are no chips or losses to the stone inlay. The grooves that form the 'branches' are a deliberate part of the design, there is nothing missing. The clasp functions well and closes securely. There are no breaks and no repairs.
The pin is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 10 karat gold.
The pin measures about 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/4 inches.
This piece weighs 11.6 grams.
