Presented is a charming sterling silver pin or brooch. This piece dates to before 1859 and is of English origin. The brooch is done in the form of a knot or knotted stem, with a single leaf on a spiral stem. The leaf is finely engraved with scrolls and texturing on the individual leaflets. The card that comes with the brooch reads 'Mrs. Arthur E. Partelow' in print, with handwritten information on both sides. The card reads 'Keepsake for Frances-- with love and best wishes July 21st /55.' on one side. The reverse reads 'Always keep this treasure.' The interior of the card gives more history of the piece, reading 'This silver pin was brought from England, by my mother-when she came to America in 1859. She was in her twenty-eighth year. I am [sic] always remember this pin as a child in Newton [unsure what this reads]." The paragraph beneath this refers to a gold piece we do not have.

There are no breaks and no repairs. The pin has no hallmarks. We have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be sterling silver. The pin measures about 2 1/4 by 1 1/2 inches.
The pin weighs 17.7 grams.
