**PICK UP ONLY** Presented is an incredible quality, English silver plated tray with a wooden, custom fitted table. This is a Regency style piece that would be a wonderful accent or tea table for any home. The tray itself is of the finest quality and was made by Creswick & Co of Sheffield between 1810 and 1830. The tray is finely hand engraved with gorgeous scrolls, shells, leaves and patterns. The tray has big, solid handles that are very well braced underneath. The raised rim is beautifully decorated with scroll, flower and leaf accents. There is a square insert of pure sterling silver in the center of the tray so that the crest could be deeply engraved, unlike engraving deeply on silver plate ;where the copper underneath would show through.
The crest is of a shield with mallets and an anchor below a castle with a horses head. There is a banner underneath that reads: Vivendo Disce Mori," which roughly translates to "Live, Learn, Die." We have been told that these are the arms of George Somes, Esq.
This pre-Victorian tray is very heavy and solid. We have looked online on many different websites and this was by far the best quality silver plated tray we could find. The tray is very easy to clean/polish because you can lift it off of the custom fitted table or base.
The base or table has been custom fitted for this exact tray and it fits perfectly. The table is late 20th century and is made from a dark, dense grained wood.
This piece is in virtually mint condition. There is some very minor surface wear to the tray but there are no dents, no breaks and no repairs.
The tray measures 31 by 22 1/4 inches. The usable, flat portion of the tray measures 21 1/4 by 16 1/2 inches.
The tray with the table measures 24 1/2 inches tall.
