Regular price
$480.00
Presented is a late 18th century serving platter with an attached covered sauce bowl made by Meissen of Germany sometime in the 1760's or 1770's. The pieces are hand painted with colorful flowers, fruits and vegetables and feature basketweave textured borders and rims gilded with an elegant foliate scroll pattern. The platter rim is also ruffled. The handle on the top of the covered bowl is a blooming rose with individually shaped petals and a delicate stem!
The underside of the platter has the Meissen crossed swords mark and there are no cancellation marks.
This piece is in remarkable overall condition. All of the paint and gilt is perfectly intact and the only flaws that we can find are extremely minor: one small 3mm shallow indent that my be a chip, on the rim's underside of the bowl cover; and an even smaller hairline or rough bubble burst on one end of the top rim of the oval bowl.
The platter is 9 3/4 inches in diameter. The oval bowl is 5 3/8 inches long by 3 3/4 inches wide. The piece is 3 1/2 inches high to the tip of the rose.
