Presented is an antique, sterling silver and cut crystal glass vanity or dresser jar/box made by Gorham during the early 1900s. The round, stout body is made of thick crystal glass that is cut with classic American Brilliant Period designs. The sterling silver lid is hand engraved with Art Nouveau style flowers and scrolls surrounding a script monogram of the initials PBL. The glass body was most likely made by Hawkes, as they did a lot of work with Gorham over the years, but it could also be the work of Libby, Tuthill, Sinclaire or any of the other well known glass manufacturers of the time. This round box was part of a larger, matching set that we have broken up to sell as individual lots. One of the matching pieces was marked with the Gorham date symbol for the year 1909.

The lid is marked for Gorham and sterling.

This piece is in good overall condition considering its age. There is some minor chipping to the glass on the high points of the cut decorations as well as a chip about 1/4 inch wide to one side, but these small flaws are not very noticeable unless you are closely inspecting the piece.

Diameter: 5 1/4 inches.
Height: 3 1/4 inches.
Total weight: 606 grams or 21.4 regular ounces.
Weight of only the sterling silver lid: 93 grams or 3.3 ounces.
