Presented is an antique, early 1920's My Dream Baby doll with a bisque head, cloth body, cry box and composition hands, made by Armand Marseille of Germany. The doll has a very pretty face and realistically-shaped head with painted upper & lower eyelashes, painted soft arch brows, red accented eyes and nostrils, blushed cheeks, closed red lips, molded ears and dark blond hair. The stuffed, frog leg style body is covered in ecru muslin and the doll is dressed in an off-white knitted undershirt and a lace and ribbon trimmed, long gingham dress.
The back of the head is incised "AM Germany", with a model number below it obscured by the attached muslin. The muslin on the doll's back is imprinted with a worn blue stamp.
Condition: Head - The doll's head is in very good condition. There are no cracks. There is one small chip from the inside of the right eye, otherwise just some light spots of soiling. Eyes - The blue eyes of the doll are loose inside of the head and one appears to be broken. Hands - Two middle fingers are broken off from each hand. Doll body - The body is in excellent and clean condition. All of the muslin is intact with no loss of stuffing. A few threads have come loose from the leg seams. The bellows-style cry box works intermittently. Clothing - The undershirt is fine. The dress shows yellowing and brown staining commensurate with age and the opening in the back has some loose threads. The back is closed with two safety pins.
