Antique 1936 English Sterling Hand Hammered Planter Flower Frog Bowl Vase
Regular price
$1,440.00
Presented is a very interesting, English sterling silver bowl made by Albert Edward Jones of Birmingham in 1936. This bowl is completely hand hammered and has a wonderful quality hammered texture all around. The photographs really do not capture the quality of the hand hammering. This item looks much better in person. The bowl has two handles and the front is monogrammed with a presentation that was added much later than the original production of the piece, the inscription reads: Marion & Lucien with love Mummy 1957-1976. The interesting part of this bowl is that it comes complete with a flower frog, or an openwork, weaved silver insert to help hold flower arrangements in place. This bowl can be used as a centerpiece bowl with a floral arrangement or as a serving bowl without the insert. The form of the bowl is very much in the style of a Scottish quaich.
The side of the bowl is marked with the anchor for Birmingham, the lion passant for sterling silver, a date letter M for the year 1936 and a maker’s mark for Albert Edward Jones.
This piece is in fabulous overall condition. There are no missing pieces, no dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no repairs.
The dish measures 10 3/4 inches from handle to spout, is 3 1/8 inches tall and weighs 375 grams or 13.1 ounces.
