Regular price $1,728.00 $0.00 Unit price per

Presented is a neat English sterling silver serving dish. This piece dates to 1933 and was made by the Crichton Brothers. The dish is rectangular, with a turned handle made from rich dark wood. The wooden handle unscrews, so the interior of the dish can be filled with hot or cold water, to keep the contents at the right serving temperature. The handle has a chain ending in a hook, which hooks to a loop on the lid so the lid can be held open while the dish's contents are offered around to guests. This is a very classy and above all useful serving piece, guaranteed to make an impression.

This piece is in great condition. There are no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The wood handle is missing most of its dark varnish, but has no chips, no cracks, and no repairs.

This piece is hallmarked on the back of the dish with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter S for 1933, and the maker's mark for the Crichton Brothers (Lionel Alfred Crichton). The interior of the lid is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter S for 1933, and the maker's mark for the Crichton Brothers. The inside of the dish is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, as is the hook of the chain. The silver threaded end on the wooden handle is stamped with the lion passant for sterling silver and the leopard's head for London. Everything is 100% original.

The serving dish measures about 11 1/2 inches from the end of the handle to the front of the dish. The dish portion itself measures about 9 by 6 by 3 1/4 inches, LxWxH.

The total weight for the piece is 1132 grams. The total silver weight, without the wooden handle, is 1072 grams or 37.8 regular ounces.
