Antique 18th Century 1783 English Sterling Silver Dish Bowl Stand Base w/ Burner

Regular price $900.00 $0.00 Unit price per
Presented is an antique, English sterling silver stand or bowl base with attached burner made by Edward Fernell of London in 1783. This late 18th century piece is done in a classic form and is raised on 4 decorative, beaded leaf and shell form feet. The rim is threaded and the burner portion is deep. The burner portion has a hand engraved crest of an arm holding up a simitar or saber sword.

The burner is marked with the crowned leopard's head symbol for the city of London, the lion passant for sterling silver purity, a date letter h for the year 1783 and a maker's mark for Edward Fernell.

This piece is in excellent condition for its age. There has been a patch, solder repair to the rim of the burner and possibly an old solder repair to one leg where it meets the rim, but it is hard to tell. These repairs are only noticeable upon close inspection of the piece, nothing that anyone would ever notice. Everything is strong and usable.

Dimensions: 10 by 7 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches.
The interior of the silver rim measures 9 1/2 x 5 7/8 inches.
A lot of oval open vegetable dishes will fit inside this opening.

Weight: 376 grams or 13.3 ounces.
