Presented is a fine Britannia silver lighthouse teapot. This piece dates to 1899. It's worth noting that Britannia standard or English first standard silver has a purity of 958/1000, higher than sterling which is 925. This piece is done in a very classical form, with a wooden side handle and an urn form finial on the lid. The spout is adorned with applied silver beading and flame or floral shapes, and has a hinged flap over the opening. The interior of the pot is nearly spotless, entirely clean and useable today. The front of the pot is monogrammed with what looks like 'PCB' in very ornate and interwoven script. A very high quality and well made piece in high grade and heavy gauge silver.
This piece is in good overall condition. The upper juncture of the silver to the wooden handle looks like it was crimped or tightened a bit, but this is not a solder repair. Some dent removal and polishing has been done in the past. There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no solder repairs.
This piece is hallmarked on the side with the lion's head erased for London, the Britannia mark for 958 purity silver, the date letter D for 1899, and the maker's mark for Charles Stewart Harris. It is also hallmarked on the inside rim of the lid with the maker's mark, the lion's head, and the date letter. The spout lid is also hallmarked with the Britannia mark and the lion's head.
This piece is approximately 9 3/8 inches tall.
This piece weighs 590 grams or 20.6 regular ounces.
