Presented is an antique, English sterling silver tongs made by William Barret II of London in 1833. This early 19th century, Georgian piece is done in a classic Fiddle pattern. The top of the tongs have an old script monogram of the initials MM. The tongs are a good weight for their size and have good tension.
The tongs bear the leopard head mark for the city of London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a duty mark of the king's head, a date letter S for the year 1833 and a maker's mark for William Barret II( although faded, still readable).
This piece is in great overall condition for its age.
Length: 5 5/8 inches.
Weight: 56 grams.
