Antique 1823 English Fiddle Sterling Silver Lion Cross Crest Fish Server 12"
Regular price
$424.80
Presented is an old, English sterling silver fiddle pattern fish server made in 1823 by William Knight II of London. The handle is done in a traditional Fiddle pattern. There is a beautiful crest of a lion with a cross under his paw on the front of the handle. The blade of the server has a wonderful pierced design in the center.
The back of the handle is marked with the leopard’s head for London, the lion passant for sterling silver, a duty mark of King George IV’s head, a date letter "h" for the year 1823 and a maker’s mark for Robert Peppin.
This piece is in very good overall condition, especially considering its age. There are two solder repairs to the server, both were well done. One of the solder repairs is where the handle meets the blade, and the other is in some of the pierced decoration in the center where the second group of fan piercing is, but piece is structurally sound. Otherwise there are no other problems.
The server measures 12 1/8 inches long and weighs 148.2 grams or 5.19 ounces.
