Presented is a great sterling silver or coin silver teapot by John & Peter Targee. It was made between 1800-1810 in New York. The teapot is rectangular shaped. The pot stands on nicely detailed clawed feet. The spout has a recessed double-lobed top. Both sides of the teapot are engraved with beautifully detailed wreaths that form cartouches. One cartouche has never been monogrammed and the other has the original monogrammed initials EMC.
The teapot is marked on bottom with John and Peter Targee's initials and two of their pseudo-hallmarks. We have tested this piece and guarantee it to be at least 900 silver if not a little higher. It is very likely the piece is actually 925 purity and sterling silver purity. To be honest, it really doesn't matter, as the piece is solid silver.
The condition is excellent. The inside is spotless and ready for use. The wooden handle is clearly original and is beautifully carved. The handle is tight to the body. The hinge on the lid is also in perfect condition without even the slightest bit of wiggle. This piece appears to have been hardly ever used. There are no breaks, no splits, no dents, no monogram removals and no repairs. This piece is in absolutely amazing condition for being over 200 years old.
The teapot measures approximately 11 3/8 inches from spout to handle, 7 inches tall and 5 1/2 inches wide.
The teapot weighs 28.07 ounces or 795.8 grams.
