Presented is a great quality and heavy antique, English sterling silver snuff box made by William Purse of London, England in 1804. This box is significantly heavier than the average snuff box and the quality is superb. The edges or sides of the box are done in a crisp quilted design. The top and bottom of the box are highlighted with a decorative linear accent pattern. The inside of the box has a beautiful gold gilding.
On the inside of the lid is a presentation with a date of 1866. The inside bottom of the snuff box is marked with the a maker's mark for William Purse, the lion passant for sterling silver, a leopard's crowned head for London, a date letter I for the year 1804, and a duty mark of King George III's head. The inside of the lid has a maker's mark for William Purse and the lion passant mark for sterling silver.
This piece is in very good condition. There is only one very small dent, which is virtually unnoticeable. The inside has a bright, strong gold gilding.
