Presented is an antique, English sterling silver pair of tongs made during the late 1700s. The tongs are either for sugar cubes or ice cubes. The arms are beautifully hand engraved bright cut floral designs. The tongs have never been monogrammed.
The inside of the tongs are marked with the lion passant for sterling silver, a duty mark of the king's head and a maker's mark of the initials RF. The duty mark is cut in on the sides of the mark, which was only done in London in the year 1798.
This piece is in great overall condition for its age.
