Presented is an antique pair of English sterling silver sugar cube tongs made by George Smith IV in 1798. This late 18th century pair of tongs can be used for anything, not just sugar cubes! The arms are beautifully hand engraved with bright cut designs and the top of the tongs have an old, original monogram of the letter C.
The inside are stamped with the lion passant for sterling silver purity, a duty mark of the king's head, a date letter C for the year 1798 and a maker's mark for George Smith IV.
This piece is in excellent overall condition for its age and the engravings are crisp.
