Presented is a fine quality American silver sugar basket. This piece is from the 1790's. There are no hallmarks anywhere, but it is done in the English/American style. The English pieces are always hallmarked, but the American pieces are often unmarked. I believe this piece is American, although I make no guarantees.
Overall the condition is good. One of the pieces of pierced work is missing, see photos, and there is a solder repair on the vertical edge where the 2 sides join. The handle is in good condition. The liner is original to this piece and was hand blown. The liner has been broken and glued together and has numerous chips. A new liner could be blown, but I wanted to leave this piece with its original liner. This is probably a piece of New York or Philadelphia silver.
It is 4 inches tall to the top of the handle. Maximum length is 4 1/8 inches. Width is 2 5/16 inches. A very nice piece of early American silver.
