Presented is an antique English sterling silver serving spoon made between 1775 to 1785 by Thomas Chawner of London. This piece is of nice weight and high quality, styled with a simple, round-ended tipt handle. The front of the handle has a beautifully hand-drawn griffin and artfully scripted "B" monogram at the top, as shown in one of the detailed photographs provided.

The back of the spoon is marked with the maker's mark for Thomas Chawner, and  the lion passant for sterling silver purity.

This piece is in good overall condition for its age, with a small amount of surface wear. There is, as we show in a magnified photo, a repair to the handle. The repair apparently obscured the duty and date letter hallmarks for the spoon. We can see two very
fine, 1mm cracks to either side of the maker's mark, only visible on the underside and not threatening to the structure or soundness of the handle.

Length: 8 1/2 inches

Weight: 69.4 grams
