Presented is a fine old English Georgian sterling silver salver or tray. This piece dates to 1756 and was made by William & Robert Peaston. The tray is done in a lovely classical form, with shell designs around a scrolled rim. The tray sits on three legs that end in spade form feet. The center of the tray has a finely engraved armorial crest of three griffins' heads in a shield.

This piece is in great overall condition. There is an old solder repair to the underside, and possibly some solder reinforcements to the legs as well, none of which is noticeable from the top or without close inspection. The tray is a little off kilter such that it would not sit flat if the legs weren't there, but it does stand on the feet nicely. There are no splits, no dents and no monogram removals.

This piece is hallmarked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head crowned for the city of London, the date letter A for 1756, and the maker's mark for William & Robert Peaston.

The tray measures about 10 3/4 inches in diameter and stands about 1 1/4 inches tall.

The tray weighs 638 grams or 22.5 regular ounces.
